Dear February: Longest short month

February, you were a whirlwind of snow, creativity, and big feelings. From magical moments in Jorvik to major progress in the garden, it’s been a month of wins and lessons. But, I have to admit, keeping track of everything this month has been a real challenge. I almost didn’t write this post because of how scattered everything felt! But here we are, pulling it together—so let’s take a look back…

A month of magic & progress

❄️ Jorvik in the snow was pure magic—there’s something special about seeing history dusted in white. The Viking city transformed under a layer of snow, creating an almost otherworldly atmosphere. Walking through the quiet streets, bundled up against the cold, felt like stepping back in time. Every footprint left in the snow felt like part of a larger story, and the sight of the frost-covered rooftops was truly unforgettable.

🧩 Finally finished a LEGO build! There’s something so satisfying about clicking that last piece into place. It was a project that had been sitting unfinished for a while, but dedicating the time to completing it felt like a small yet meaningful achievement. Don’t worry I have a few more on the shelf to build.

🧚 Fairy stories came to life this month—more words written, more ideas taking shape. The world of these magical beings is becoming richer with every new story, and the creative energy behind them has been flowing freely. It’s exciting to see characters and settings develop, and the anticipation of sharing these tales with others makes the process even more rewarding.

☕ A lovely visit to Ruby’s in Acomb. Great company, great coffee—what more could you want? The warmth of the café was the perfect contrast to the chilly weather outside. Good conversation and the comfort of a well-made coffee created a much-needed moment of pause amid the month’s busyness. These small moments of connection are what truly make a month memorable.

🌱 The front garden is 98% done! So close to the finish line. After months of planning and effort, it’s incredibly satisfying to see the transformation take shape. The last few finishing touches are all that’s left, and soon it will be a space to truly enjoy. From clearing out old growth to planting new life, this has been a labour of love, and the results are already worth it.

🌳 Planted two new trees. Future shade, future beauty, future climbing possibilities (not for me, but maybe for the local squirrels!). There’s something incredibly hopeful about planting trees—knowing they’ll grow and change over the years, becoming a lasting part of the landscape. It’s a small contribution to the environment but a deeply fulfilling one. Watching them take root and imagining what they’ll become is a lovely reminder of the power of patience and nature.

🏡 The Fairy House project has a new website in the works! Exciting things ahead. This project is coming together beautifully, and having a dedicated space online for it feels like a major step forward. Designing the site and envisioning how it will bring these tiny magical homes to life for others has been a joy. Soon, it will be a place where stories, photos, and fairy-inspired adventures can be shared with the world.

💊 Came off sertraline and then had to go back on it. It was rough—a big lesson in recognising when you need support and being kind to yourself in the process. This month reinforced how important mental health care is and how sometimes things don’t go as planned. Acknowledging the struggle and giving myself the grace to make adjustments was a challenge, but one that brought important reminders about self-care and resilience.

Wins & challenges

💡 Top Wins:

  • Home and garden projects making real progress.
  • Writing and creativity flourishing.
  • Recognising when to ask for help.

💭 Hard Moments:

  • The struggle of medication changes. Mental health is a journey, and this month was a reminder to be patient with it.
  • Keep my thoughts in a straight line. I have a letter ready to go to the GP to ask about a ADHD diagnosis but I have yet to send it.

Thismonth in numbers

🚶‍♀️ Steps walked: TBD (but Willow made sure I got out!)
🎵 Most-played song: TBD (probably something cosy and nostalgic)
⏳ Hours spent on hobbies: Plenty—LEGO, fairy tales, and a little bit of dreaming about spring.

Looking ahead to March

🌿 Complete that last 2% of the garden!
💻 Keep building out the Fairy House website.
💆‍♀️ Focus on balance and self-care—no unnecessary pressure, just progress at my own pace.

A moment of gratitude

This month, I’m grateful for the small joys—snowy landscapes, deep conversations, and the people who check in when things get tough.
